| From Peter Duke: I have just tried out the free utility rename.exe by 1-4a in order to insert leading zeros in the digit part of file names such as the AVI files produced after capture by PrEl. It is a small program which needs no installation. After you say what you want to do, it displays the proposed file names alongside the original names before you ask it to go ahead. Click start and it is done. I have only used it once on some "Mickey Mouse" files, so don't ask me for detailed information. There is a web page of (cryptic) examples and a FAQ page, but no help file or manual. If you pause your mouse cursor over a field in the main (only) window, a hint is displayed. The author only asks that you email him and comment - no money. This is how I used it: 1. In the left hand pane blue box, top right field, select the drive letter of the folder/subdirectory with the files to be renamed. 2. In the field below it, navigate to the folder. All files should now appear in the right hand pane. 3. Select sort order from the drop-down list above it (e.g. name). 4. In the left hand pane brown box, tick "Add lead" (short for "add leading character") and enter 0 (zero) in the next field and the select number of digits (characters) in the last field (e.g. 3). The preview pane on the right should now show the effect of the changes. 5. Click the big red "Start" button in the left hand pane. |
